REVIEW: Jay’s Gourmet Pizza & Seafood in Carlsdad

On a recent Sunday afternoon we found ourselves starving after driving up to Carlsbad to pick up a dining table.  While sitting at the traffic light looking, at one of my favorite buildings in Carlsbad and looking up the eating options as well, on Yelp of course, we decided just to drive down Carlsbad Blvd and stop somewhere.

Well, upon making the left turn onto Carlsbad Village Drive

I turned into Jay’s driveway, quite by accident, we thought why not try it.

Just opening for the day it was, quaint, smelled of fresh bread and was informal and “neighborhoody”.

Welcomed with a cheerful “come in, have a seat” we promptly obliged. Making a quick choice I started with the Clam Chowder. One size only, $5.00 A HUGE thick and delicious bowl loaded with clams was brought to the table. Most definitely enough for TWO!

Following the soup I thought a salad,

in keeping with the New Year’s resolution would be a prudent choice ….

Mind you I had the “small” lunch size.

The Seafood Salad loaded with scallops, shrimp, squid and salmon…

Joe had the Chicken Marco Polo with a Marsala Sauce

which included mushrooms, bacon, onions, black olives on Angel Hair pasta…

We had to stop, the portions were huge, we had enough for dinner!

(What you are seeing is 1/2 of the portion still left!)

Needless to say the only thing left to comment on is the service.

simple, suggestions were made, iced tea refilled, friendly, she checked back to see if everything was fine,

doing all this as the place began to fill up on this sleepy Carlsbad Sunday

that was slowly waking up and filling up the restaurants.

We will definitely go again.

We often travel up to Orange County. A stop in Carlsbad at Jay’s may just become a regular part of the trip.

Maybe try the pizza next time…
