National Deviled Eggs Day …NOV. 2, 2011

It’s National Deviled Egg Day!

Did you know that another name for deviled eggs is eggs mimosa? This dish is a traditional favorite in both American and French cultures. Deviled eggs are made with hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and seasoning, and can be served as a side dish, appetizer, or main course. While deviled eggs originated in ancient Rome, the term “deviled” didn’t appear until the 18th century when it was used to describe highly seasoned, fried, or boiled dishes. By the 19th century, the word “deviled” was used to describe hot seasonings in general.
Today, not all deviled egg recipes are spicy, but a little cayenne pepper or hot mustard can always give them an extra kick….

I remember as a kid these “treats” my Mom would make.

They were the  simple 1960’s version.

Miracle Whip, yellow mustard and a Paprika garnish.

It’s hard to believe that these simple, “serve at every holiday “,

cost effective treat would one day become so trendy.

Now served in the most stylist establishments….

From classy bar

To the most upscale establishments as appetizers

or a light dressed up entree.

Something different?

How about a

Do It Yourself Deviled Egg Bar…

Caviar, Capers, Olives, Dill, Tapatio, Bacon or Anchovy

all make great toppings to set out.

Seasonings like Smoked Sea Salt, Paprika, Curry powder, Herbs de Provence

to add the finishing bursts of flavor.

have them made to order complete with a Deviled Egg Chef

 Who would have thought?

From Tupperware with a Paprika garnish,

Sterling Silver with a Caviar topping!!!

Make your favorite family recipe tonight to celebrate ….
