The Flower Fields® are now OPEN!

Take yourself out of the ordinary and spend a few hours in one of nature’s wonders – the Fields of Dreams,  Fields of Color- 50 acres of extraordinary color in bloom on Carlsbad hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Also on the grounds is a special nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers.    There are festivals and events  throughout the season.

For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields® at Carlsbad Ranch are in a full bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year – from early March through early May – literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color is one of nature’s official ways of announcing the arrival of spring here in Southern California.   Look at this aerial view…gorgeous!!!

There are so many varieties of flowers here although they are known for the Ranunculus that grows here. The original settler Luther Gage planted the first seeds here in 1920.

Besides the world famous ranuculus there are

roses  ………………………and   geraniums…………

morning glories

                                                and the Orchid Greenhouses………….

Besides the flowers there are fun activities for everyone……………..

Sweet Pea Maze:

Fun! Reminiscent of the British mazes, this mini-maze allows you to run up & down aisles lined with flowering pea plants.

Antique Tractor Ride:

In this ride, an antique tractor pulls you along in an open-top wagon. It’s a great way to see all the flowers without all the walking. At the top of the hill, you can disembark, browse, photograph, enjoy the view, and relax in the sitting areas. The tractor wagon ride is $5 and you need to   buy the tickets at the entrance to the Flower Fields.
