REVIEW: Rudford’s

2900 El Cajon Blvd
(between 30th St & Kansas St)
San Diego, CA 92104
(619) 282-8423

Well, little did we know that this San Diego landmark, since 1949, was down the street when we found our place. In is such a cool place. A real throw back in time. Going there reminds me of the TV Series “Cold Case” when they reinact the crime that usually took place in the 60-70’s. Stepping into Rudford’s is just like that. From the counter seating, the glass pie cases, to the red vinyl booths with their big oval windows it’s all

setting the stage for the “step back”. Now, take a look at the menu,

Nothing over $12! Oh, and that’s for the complete meal… be ready for the lightning round quiz when you order…

Potatoes, mash or fried? Fried?

        Crinkle cut or steak fries?

Soup or Salad?Salad ?  Blue, 1000, Italian?    Absolutely the BEST Rich and Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing Ever! Recipethey have the most amazing homemade Blue cheese dressing!

We just ran out of carrots.  So will it be peas?                  or the beans?Roll? Wheat or white?  If you order something with gravy they ask,  brown or white?

Too funny…..as she leaves she turns and says……….

“Be thinking bout your dessert now, ice cream, jello, tapioca, or pie.” Later, when you select your dessert, you’ll have to decide what flavor, with or without whip cream and coffee or tea…..       God forbid you’re dining with an indecisive person!!!

The service is great and you can’t beat the prices.

But the people watching is the best! Rudford’s is open 24 hours. Now you know, at 1 am in in the morning most of the people in there are coming from “elsewhere”. Jack in the Box is across the street. You would think the people who were not as “tipsy” would be at Rudford’s, or so we thought. Maybe passed out in the backseat of one of the cars in the drive through line. But NO. We forgot about all those people on El Cajon who don’t have cars that walk! and walk-in! It was quite a show!   No extra charge…

Back to the food,  their servings are very generous as well being good. Just remember this is comfort food, a diner.

For what it is, it could not be better.

You really need to stop by sometime….

afterall they are open 24 hours with lots of parking ,

and they are a part of San Diego  history………..

and to encourage you to go, here is a coupon for you………..
